Makerspace

ThinkersA makerspace in the school library gives students a chance to use technology and physical resources to create, design, prototype and explore. Students are given the opportunity to work independently or collaboratively and experience technology through activities that enhance their learning outside of the classroom. Activities can range from arts and crafts to engineering, programming and circuitry. Library Services provides Maker-Boxes of technology and materials to assist in the implementation of makerspaces in school libraries in Fresno County.

School libraries interested in checking out a Maker-Box should attend a professional development or schedule an appointment to learn how to use the resources contained within the box by contacting:

Renee Samarco at rsamarco@fcoe.org.

Educational Standards

Maker boxes give students the opportunity to create, collaborate, foster critical thinking, and engage in authentic learning. As such, the activities can be correlated to Next Generation Science Standards in Engineering, Computer Science Teachers Association Standards and the Eight Standards for Mathematical Practices.
